Super A Divisions will undergo the following changes beginning Fall 2010:
* The first three games of doubles 501 will now be single leg and DIDO. * All singles matches will now return to the MMDL standard 301 DIDO, best of 3 format. * Doubles cricket will remain best 2 out of 3 legs for the highest recognized MMDL division which is currently SA * Only the top 4 teams of each area will qualify for the playoffs.
Reasons for these changes:
After reviewing a 2 season long experiment with alternative formats, these changes were made to --
* Shorten match time duration for all SA teams in all areas * Improve the competitive structure of the division and reduce lop-sided match scores * Make SA more attractive to borderline teams and teams chosen to move up * Create a format that will better enable 6-8 team division size * Prevent the need for distant travel to SA matches * Remain closer to longstanding MMDL match format traditions and heritage
SA Early Registration Request: In order to better manage the SA division, we are asking all teams that wish to participate to declare their intention early by submitting their Super A team roster by Monday, July 19th via email to Adam Sherlock at adams @ mmdl.org. Sponsor checks will not be required on that date and are due per usual at the first scheduled captain's meeting. You do not have to submit your roster by this date, SA rosters can also be submitted during the regularly scheduled area captain's meetings the first week of August. Please use the attached roster form which can be filled out on your computer and easily sent via email.

I personally like the changes, only because it affords the weaker teams a better chance to grab some early games. This will hopefully help sway the stronger A teams to move up on their own, so we can elimanate the forcing up of teams that don't want to be there. JMT'S

You say in the above post one change is "only four teams from each area make the play-offs"That's how it always has been.If the number of Super A teams does not increase and we once again have 4 team divisions....please for the love of God,only allow 2 teams from each area to make the play-offs...make the season count for something.

Not that my opinion matters not being a Super A shooter at the moment, I'd have to say I concur. History has shown that some teams or individual players saw no need to show up every week because they were making the playoffs anyway. The problems that stem from that are self evident. You show and no one to shoot against etc..I'd even go one step further, 5 teams 3 make it.

Wait....You mean there AREN'T teams BANGING DOWN THE DOOR, begging for Super A???? I thought ABA said he might have to "turn away" teams from Super A here in the south cause so many wanted to play? Wow, what a shocker!!! Teams winning the Area and/or the STATE and NOT wanting to move up? Go figure! Teams splitting or 'taking time off' just cause they don't want to endure an entirely meaningless season of getting their asses handed to them? What's up with that? Don't teams want to be 'mentored' by getting crushed and humiliated each week while traveling to the ends of the earth to do so? That's really strange! My team was one of the "lucky" ones to get to do it last season, why doesn't anyone else want to enjoy the experience of losing every single week???

If I recall correctly, I said if the rumors I hear flying around are true then I might have to turn away teams for SA.
This was based on:
Makin Treble, Scallyways, and Seadogs returning.
The A division area winner moving up.
Kirby's team being a Super A team.
Another long time shooter (not to be named) was supposed to be putting in a team and that would probably be a Super A team.
The Donkeys reforming.
The Bimbos, at least Mel, had expressed interest.
So on and so forth..but we all know how the rumors are.
Eyes, try the one I posted in another thread. Team wins the state's and at least one player on that team wants to play in a division LOWER than the one the team won to improve their average.

That's complete crap & said player should not be allowed to do that. So, officially, how many Super A teams have signed up? The league wanted to get some sort of number by this week correct? How many do you have so far?

While said player is not one of the better players on said team, they were still good enough to be part of a team that went all the way. My average after 2 seasons in B is 34%..including 1-11 in 301. I'd like to improve my average too..so I think I'm going to practice some more and try to win more games.
Not sure about teams honestly, it doesn't come directly to me so I wouldn't have the first hand knowledge.

No one going to know how many teams until the 11th hour. The one thing i can't stand about the Super A process is hush hush posturing that's done to form a team. telling one team they're interested while trying to hook up someplace else. Secretly holding who's playing for them close to the vest until the rosters in. I understand this needs to be done to a certain degree but this is some James Bond Shiznit. There could be eight teams out there if all that SAY they're interested actually committed. I will say this. I had a conversation with a very good A shooter the other night. He could compete in S,.A. easily. He was straight forward and honest with me. He said "I've never won anything. I want to win it all and then I'd move up in a heart beat." I personally will be very disappointed if i end up shooting in A in the fall, but if i do it won't be for a lack of trying. I've never won a State tittle and it's not the end all be all for me. I want the competition that way I have my own personal championship every Tuesday night. Some I'll win, some I'll lose.
